Fractured is a series of digital collages where fragments of brown bodies append to and merge with fragments of classic white female European sculptures, paintings and photographs. Hybrids of contrast, form and racial identities morph into new female transformations. With vibrant patterns, colours and symbolic references inspired by her Afro-Cuban heritage Torres disrupts the female canon in the history of art. Obstructing the European male gaze she subverts the ‘Fractured’ gaze of female physical beauty to make it her own.
