Mother Diaries is a self-portrait 3 part installation where Torres explores Animism - a belief that there is no seperation between the spiritual or the material world. The death of her mother presented a sudden void when communication abruptly ceased. In a series of colour digital prints - Conversations with Mother, Torres attempts to conjure a dialogue, in the mono salt prints with gold detail - When I Grew Wings to Meet Mother, Torres achieves magical powers, and in the animated stills video - Bailando con Madre (Dancing with Mother), Torres uses her mother’s shawl to reach a trance-like state, morphing into an abstraction of colour and form. The soundtrack features Torres’s voice channeling her mother singing ‘Beautiful Heaven (Cielito Lindo)’ a song she sang to her as a child.
